We took a break from our series "Living Upside Down" in order to look ahead to the next year at Waite Park Church. Jesus has great expectations for his followers and we want to be faithful to that. This sermon outlines some of the ways we plan to do just that.

Living Upside Down
What is it that we orient our lives to? What is the standard we use to make decisions. Jesus' Sermon on the Mount is his first sermon, setting the tone for his entire ministry and orienting his followers to the economy of the Kingdom of God. When we live according to the Kingdom of God, it looks upside-down to much of the world (and even the religious establishment), but to God, it's right-side up.

Our call as a church is to be witnesses to the resurrected Christ. We see this in the last words of Jesus to His disciples. How do we, as a local church work to fulfill this calling? Find out here. In week one, we'll talk about the rationale for foreign missions, in week two, we'll have John Connor from the Wesleyan Church's Jesus Film project. To know more about the Jesus film, visit the
Things look different when you see them close up than when you look at them from afar. There are some things we can figure out about God through nature and what we call general revelation. But there are some things we can only know when we look at God up close. This series looks at three events from the last week of Jesus' life to see what we can learn about God when we look at Him up close. The series ends on Easter.
Relationships are intended to be life-giving. That's the way God created us. Why, then do we so readily disconnect ourselves from the relationships that give us life? Divorce, broken friendships, lack of commitment are all symptoms of our tendency to disconnect, and the effects are all around our society--depression, suicide, broken families and struggling kids. How did we get here and more importantly, how we reconnect?
Money impacts every area of our lives--physical, relational, emotional, and spiritual. The Bible has a lot to say about money (and not just how much you should give to the church). 1 Timothy 6 says, "Those who want to get rich fall into all kinds of tempations and a trap." How can you avoid the money trap? This series will explore what the Bible says should be our attitude toward money.
The Christ in Christmas is our advent series for 2011. Advent is the traditional way the church remembers the first coming of Jesus and proclaims the second coming of Jesus. So the question we're asking in this series is, "What would it look like if we our Christmas celebration looked more like Christ?" Would we give in to the materialism and self-indulgence? Would we be as stressed and financially strained? Would the world see more of Christ if Christians changes the way we celebration Christmas? Our community thought we'd give it a try.
What does it mean to be "multi-generational?" Does it mean we're OK if people of all ages come to our church? Or is it something more? Ephesians 2 tells us that Christianity should break down walls, not just between us and God, but between all people. That means a church that is focused on the Gospel will work to break down the barriers that separate us-including our generational differences. But how do we ensure all generations have a place at the table in our church? It comes when we remember that purpose of the church is not just to get along, but to pass along the faith to the next generations.
We believe Jesus called His church to make and impact on the people around them. For individual Christians, it's often hard to know where to begin. But the great thing is, we're not just individual Christians. We're called to be a part of a community called the church. Waite Park, as a local version of that church is seeking to do our part to make an impact on our community. We don't plan on riding in and saving the day. We won't "reinvent the wheel." Instead, we've chosen to partner with existing organizations that are already doing great work in our Community. During this series, we'll highlight three organizations, Breaking Free, City Life Works, and Northeast Middle School and give you insight in how you can get involved and make an impact for the Kingdom.
Many people think religion is limiting and lifeless, but we believe Jesus when He said, "I have come that they might have life in the fullest sense." So we've made it our vision to bring life. This series will highlight the vision of Waite Park Church. If you want to know what we're striving for, this is the series for you.
There many different reason why people believe--or don't believe. Very seldom are these beliefs strictly intellectual. This series is an honest look at the biggest reason why people don't buy Christianity. We'll look at topics like hell, the problem of evil, hypocrisy in the church and others. We'll take look honestly at ourselves to see how we create and how we can knock down the barriers to faith.
This three-week series will look at how our identity in Christ shapes our past, present and future. The first week looks at the question Jesus asked, "Who do you say I am?" Is there a more important question in the world? We don't think so. Our intentity in Christ, despite what some might say, gives us freedom, peace, and life.
